News Archive for September 2008Archaeologists have recently uncovered a 1700 year old Apollon statue in Turkey. This discovery was in the ancient city of Soloi Pompeipolis which is south of Mersin. The statue was made from bronze and dated back as far as the Roman period. Weighing in at 615 g and about 20cm tall the statue is thought to be that of the sun god Apollon. Excavations are to continue during August and September.
The Human Race
Turkey is taking part in The Hunan Race along with 25 other countries. The race which will see about 1 million runners compete and be the biggest running event in the world.
The 10k contestants from Turkey will take part in the Beylerbeyi district of Istanbul. The race will start at around 8am on Sunday and local roads will be closed during the race.
