About Kalkan
Kalkan is a small town on the Lycian Coast, relatively untouched by mass tourism it still has a traditional fishing village feel to it. Kalkan is an upmarket resort and attracts people who want more than just sea and sun, there is no other Turkish village quite like it.
This enchanting town is set in one of the most attractive locations with fantastic views. The small harbour gently curves around the bay with the Taurus Mountains in the background. There are very strict building regulations in Kalkan which keeps the town size to a minimum and blends the old with the new. They also make sure that noise levels of an evening are kept to a minimum.
The narrow streets of Kalkan are lined with white washed traditional building with balconies heaving with fragrant bougainvillea that lead down to the harbour. Dotted along the way you will discover speciality shops and bistros. You are free to wander around the many shops hassle free and are usually offered a free glass of cay (local tea) whilst browsing. If you like a bargain then you must visit Kalkan's market day which is every Thursday.
Kalkan boasts the highest number of restaurants and bars against population, there are over 100. Most of these have roof terraces which look out over the town and harbour. The nightlife in Kalkan is more refined than other Turkish resorts. As dusk begins Kalkan comes alive and many people just like to stroll around the many shops which are open till very late. Good local buys are hand blown glass, decorated ceramics and there are also several tailors who will make you made to measure clothing from Turkish cloth.
